The initiative is a part of Gotlandsbolaget\u2019s long-term strategy with phasing out fossil fuels from our operations and accelerating our role as leading player with the climate transition.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Two of the vessels operating in the Gotland service are fitted with modern dual-fuel engines, which make it possible to run on nearly 100% fossil-free fuels\u00a0in terms of bioLNG. This enables us to finance a higher share of liquefied biogas in our operations under the FuelEU Maritime regulation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The regulation makes it possible for shipowners with vessels built for fossil-free operation to trade\u00a0CO2e\u00a0<\/span>emission<\/span>\u00a0reductions through\u00a0<\/span>pooling<\/span>. Actors with a\u00a0<\/span>surplus<\/span>\u00a0of reductions can make them available to\u00a0<\/span>vessels in deficit<\/span>, supporting their\u00a0<\/span>compliance\u00a0with FuelEU Maritime. This creates economic incentives to increase the use of sustainable fuels across the maritime sector. As demand grows, production and availability of fossil-free fuels can expand over time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through Gotland Carbon Solutions, we offer partners the opportunity to tap into our emission reductions which enables us to further increase the share of fossil-free fuels within our own fleet. In this way, we contribute not only to our own decarbonization but to the climate ambition of the European shipping industry.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
